Today we mark Mother’s Day, a day that invites us to reflect on the many ways the spirit of motherhood shows up in our lives and in our world.

Motherhood is often pictured in one form: a biological mother raising her children. And that love is powerful, sacred, and worthy of celebration. But the truth is, the heart of motherhood extends far beyond biology.

Today we celebrate the women who nurture life in all its forms.

We celebrate biological mothers who carry, birth, and raise children through sleepless nights, quiet sacrifices, and unwavering devotion.

We celebrate spiritual mothers, the women who pray for us, guide us, counsel us, and stand in the gap with wisdom and faith when we need direction.

We celebrate career mothers and mentors who open doors, share knowledge, and invest their time so that others can grow, succeed, and walk confidently into their calling.

We celebrate the aunties, teachers, caregivers, leaders, neighbours, and friends who have stepped into moments of someone’s life and offered protection, encouragement, correction, or simply a listening ear.

Motherhood is not only about giving life, it is also about nurturing life, shaping character, protecting potential, and believing in someone until they believe in themselves.

And yet, days like today can also carry quiet tenderness and deep emotion.

For some, Mother’s Day is joyful.

For others, it holds the ache of missing a mother or a mother figure who once filled the room with love.

For some women, it carries the silent grief of losing a child, a pain words can barely touch.

For others, it is the longing of those who hoped to become mothers but have not yet seen that desire fulfilled.

To those who find today difficult, please know this:
your grief is seen, your love is honoured, and your story matters.

Love does not disappear when someone is gone.
The care you carry, the memories you hold, and the influence that shaped your life remain part of you.

Motherhood, in its deepest sense, is about love that nurtures, love that sacrifices, and love that continues to give even when it is unseen.
