Just like a lighthouse guides ships safely through dark and stormy waters, your internal control system serves as your lighthouse. It helps you navigate through life’s challenges with clarity and wisdom.
“Wisdom will add more days and years to your life. If you are wise, it will help you in many ways. But if you think you do not need wisdom, you will bring trouble on yourself.” – Proverbs 9:12 (MSG)
Life is filled with challenges, setbacks, and unexpected events, but nothing in your life is a surprise to God. No matter what you are going through, God is always aware and is ready to guide you.
Keep reading to find out how you can connect better to your “control system.” This is your internal guidance rooted in being created by God. It is also connected to your faith and relationship with God.
What you must learn to understand your control system
To understand your internal control system, there are several foundational things to learn. It is often referred to as your intuition, conscience, or spiritual guidance.
We all have an inbuilt mechanism, but there are a few factors that will decide the effectiveness of our system.
- Self-awareness: Get to know your strengths, weaknesses, desires, and triggers. This will help you recognize when something feels out of alignment or when your peace is disturbed. Understand the reason for your feelings. This can help you distinguish between genuine spiritual signals and reactions based on fear, stress, or external pressure.
- Spiritual sensitivity: Cultivate a strong relationship with God through prayer, meditation, and studying the Word of God. The more you connect with God, the more sensitive you become to His guidance in your life.
- Listening skills: In a fast-paced world, distractions are constant. Quiet your mind through reflection, stillness, or meditation. This way, you can listen to the still, small voice of your internal control system. Practice identifying your own thoughts, ego, fears, the enemy or societal expectations. Distinguish them from the true guidance from your internal compass or spiritual convictions.
- Humility and openness to learning: Acknowledge that you don’t have all the answers. Be willing to learn from your experiences, both good and bad. Sometimes your internal guidance can be confirmed by wise counsel. Seek advice from others who are spiritually mature or experienced in the areas where you need guidance.
Remember that when you struggle or lose peace, it’s often a red flag. This struggle could mean:
- You’re out of alignment with God’s plan
- You’re moving outside of your current season
- You haven’t gained the necessary wisdom or skills for your next level
- Covetousness is creeping in
- The enemy is resisting your progress
How to make the most of your control system
- Trust in God’s unchanging knowledge: Remember, nothing is new to God. He is the Ancient of Days, knowing the end from the beginning. He has not promised a life free of troubles but has promised that you will overcome. You often learn more in tough times than in good times. When your trust in God is without borders, your faith will become stronger. Embrace the challenges as opportunities for growth and deeper reliance on God.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. – Isaiah 43: 2 (TPT)
- Walk in faith, not fear: Trust in God’s love for you, without limitations. Walking in faith strengthens you and keeps you grounded. Courage isn’t the absence of fear, but the ability to face any challenge knowing that God is with you. When walking with God, you won’t be consumed by your difficulties, you will rise above them.
- Seek divine guidance: Seek wisdom, direction, and guidance through prayer. Acknowledge that you need help and ask God for insight. Learn spiritual principles that govern life. Study Bible passages like Proverbs, Psalms, or other wisdom literature. Understand how these can teach you to apply practical spiritual knowledge.
- Patience and timing: When you face internal struggle, stop and evaluate your actions. Is this God’s timing? Are you forcing something that’s not meant for you right now? Understand that everything has a season. Learn patience, knowing that some things take time to unfold, and forcing them can create unnecessary struggle.
- Rely on the Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit, as the custodian of God’s power, is ready to guide you. Trust in the Spirit’s gentle nudge to help untangle whatever is troubling you. Not every opportunity or challenge requires immediate action. Learn to wait on God’s timing and respond wisely rather than react impulsively.
Your inbuilt control system is there to warn you when you’re heading in the wrong direction. Understanding this system also requires you to know when to release the need to control every situation.
Fear and anxiety often drown out your inner guidance. Learn to surrender these emotions. Replace them with faith. Be spiritually sensitive enough to discern when you need to slow down or pivot.
Pray, trust, and allow God to direct your steps toward peace, joy, and fulfillment. When you understand these truths, you can better connect with your internal control system. This connection leads to understanding God’s plan, clearer decision-making, and a deeper alignment with your purpose.
