“Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are – northward, southward, eastward, and westward; for all the land which you see I give to you and your descendants forever…Arise, walk in the land through its length and its width, for I give it to you” – Genesis 13:14-15, 17 (NKJV).
Imagination is a powerful tool, one that shapes the world around us and can transform our lives. God painted a vivid picture for Abram. He encouraged him to envision the vast lands he would inherit. Similarly, you can create a vision of your future.
In the Bible, earlier in Genesis 12:1-3, God called Abram to get out of his country. This meant he had to leave his family and his father’s house. God said He would show him a new land. He would make Abram a great nation and bless him. In him, all the families of the earth would be blessed. This can be a lot for anyone to understand, not to mention seeing the possibility. But through the power of imagination, Abram saw beyond his limits.
Your mind creates your reality
Everything you achieve begins in your mind. Your mental picture is the blueprint for your physical reality. If you can imagine it, you can achieve it. The future you see in your mind is the one you will live. So be bold, dream big, and activate your imagination to build the life you desire.
This is why God worked on Abrams imagination first. God painted a picture in Abram’s mind that allowed him see a virtual survey of the land. With this revelation, Abram promptly ventured into unknown territories in obedience with confidence. During his sojourn, God blessed Abraham in all things, including well advanced age (Genesis 24:1 NKJV).
The same applies to you. You can go as far as you choose to go. You can accomplish or achieve anything you imagine. But to do so, you must keep in your mind the mental picture of your expectations. Imagine what you want, feel it, see it clearly in your mind.
Keys to unlocking your imagination
- Visualize your goals: Close your eyes and picture the life you want. Whether it’s career progression, a thriving business, marriage and family, spiritual or personal growth, see it clearly and in detail. Your mental picture defines your actual future, even amid impossible conditions. Everything you want to have or become is created twice; first in your thoughts and then secondly physically.
- Focus your thoughts: In a world full of distractions, make time for quiet reflection. Prioritize strategic thinking and study everything that brings you closer to your goal. This is the reason you must create the time to think in your closet, all by yourself. This activity will compete with the noisy world of daily demands around you. However, you must resist the demands and persist in what you are doing.
- Break free from limitations: Your background does not define your future. Whether you were born into wealth or poverty, your ability to imagine a better future is your most powerful asset. None is the doing of the person. But if you were born impoverished and you accept it as your lot, then it’s your mistake. You are at fault if you remain so throughout life. Shakespeare said it best, “The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves…” That’s why you must think and see differently from the people in the environment you were born into.
- What do you see? If you want one thing changed in your life, what would you have changed? Is it something extraordinary? Something life-changing? Let your imagination guide you, and watch as your dreams turn into reality. Work on your mental picture and forge your own path with purpose and intention. You can start by having big mental pictures of the world you want to create. You don’t need anybody’s permission to positively activate your mind.
- Forge your path with purpose: Life doesn’t just happen. Every great achievement starts with a vision, sustained by disciplined thinking and strategic action. Embrace a growth mindset, stay dedicated to learning, and take continuous steps toward your dream. With your critical thinking, you will begin to develop problem-solving skills. Organise the knowledge you gain. Focus on your goals and seek to learn more about your expectations. You will see opportunities, gain perspective and generate new ideas that can change your story or that can improve the progress you are already making.
- Take action: Imagination without action is just daydreaming. Set goals, create timelines, and take small steps toward your vision every day. Also, be involved in a hobby or an activity that will enable you to think and gain relevant skills. There is a road map for you to follow. Look for it. Don’t remain only on the platform of thinking if you must realize your dream. Every great result is preceded by simple steps that you will take. Take the steps!
Remember, imagination isn’t just for dreaming. It’s for creating. With sustained focus, action, and faith, your future is limitless. What you imagine today could be the breakthrough you experience tomorrow!
