There’s no such thing as luck – nothing happens by accident. Every outcome is the result of choices you’ve made. Or those imposed on you by circumstances, people, or the environment, whether consciously or unconsciously.

The most important thing you can do is uncover your purpose on this earth. If you don’t know who you are, people and circumstances will tell you who you are not. Life begins with purpose:

  • Purpose gives you focus
  • Purpose defines your destination
  • Purpose provides direction

When you pursue this direction with wisdom and diligence, success follows. Remember, responsibility is the root of greatness—no one else can manage your destiny for you.

How can you discover who you are?

Discovering who you are is a deeply personal journey, and it involves self-reflection, exploration, and taking actionable steps. When you understand your purpose, everything else falls into place, including financial resources. Money follows purpose because purpose drives you to excel and reach your potential.

So what were you born to do? Your discovery will jump start your progress. Here are some ways to help you on this path:

  1. Self-reflection: To know your path requires you to assess yourself. First examine your values and beliefs. What principles guide your decisions? What matters most to you in life? Also, understand what you’re naturally good at and where you need improvement. You can also journal regularly to track your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. This can help clarify your emotions and reveal patterns in your thinking.
  1. Explore your passion: Think about activities that make you feel alive and engaged. Your passions are often tied to your true self. Step outside your comfort zone to explore different hobbies, interests, or skills. Experimenting with new activities can help you uncover hidden talents or desires.
  1. Reflect on your past: Consider significant moments in your life that shaped who you are today. What did you learn from those experiences? You may also want to examine your childhood. Your interests and dreams as a child could provide clues to your core identity.
  1. Define your purpose: Think about the causes, people, or missions that you care deeply about. Purpose is often linked to who you are and what you want to contribute to the world. Then set clear goals to guide you toward discovering your purpose and, in turn, who you are. Nobody can handle what concerns your destiny as you. Purpose will command satisfaction of your needs including money which is a major factor in the world today.
  1. Embrace solitude and meditation: Success starts in the mind. If you believe in your ability to achieve more in life you certainly can. Don’t be hindered by your present situation and circumstances. The truth is that if you can think well, you can channel your thoughts into outcomes that will surprise you. So make sure you observe daily alone times. A quiet time for yourself allows you to listen to your inner thoughts without external distractions. Which will help you become more aware of your inner world and fosters self-awareness. During these times tell yourself that you are a proof-producer. Remind yourself you have what it takes to do what needs doing. Start now!
  1. Understand your fears and desires: What are you afraid of, and why? Facing these fears helps you uncover deeper truths about yourself. If you think you’re too old to start afresh or now retired with no more impact to make, think again. As long as you can think, you can create. So leverage your experience and skills, rediscover forgotten passions and repurpose hobbies or overlooked opportunities. Examine your desires. What do you truly want in life, beyond societal or familial expectations? Everyone has something valuable to contribute, regardless of age or stage of life.
  1. Be authentic and true to yourself: Live according to your values. Align your actions and decisions with your core values, and avoid pretending to be someone you’re not. Don’t let others’ opinions or your current circumstances define you. Surround yourself with supportive allies and never leave anything to chance. If you want more out of life, don’t accept limitations. Reject negative labels, break free from environmental constraints and believe you can do more. Allow yourself to be open and authentic, even when it feels uncomfortable.
  1. Keep growing: Stay curious and continue learning, growing, and challenging yourself. The more you experience life, the more you will understand who you are. What skills, passions, or experiences have you overlooked? Even something as simple as a hobby or an old idea can spark a new direction. Don’t let excuses hold you back. The best time to start was yesterday, but today is still a good time if you act now. Tomorrow may be too late!

Discovering who you are is a process that takes time, but through self-awareness, exploration, and aligning with your purpose, you’ll start to see your true self more clearly. Step into your new self and begin to make an impact in your sphere of life. The results will surprise you, exceeding your expectations and inspiring others.

“For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.” – Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NLT)

A new you is ready to emerge—think boldly, plan comprehensively and take deliberate actions. Step up and begin your journey of transformation!
